Proper scooter maintenance will keep your vehicle humming along for years. One of the most crucial parts to check on is the scooter tires. Before you go out on your next ride, check the quality of the tires. Are there any tears or holes? Are the tires balding?

If your scooter tires pass those two criteria, you’ll want to move on to tire pressure. Tires lose air, particularly during the winter months, and low air will negatively affect your maneuverability. Since you’re already inspecting your scooter, make sure the seat lock screws are tight. Remember that tires do wear out, no matter how well you maintain them, so make sure you replace your scooter tires every so often.

Honda has blended the sport bike and the scooter in the new 2011 Mid Concept.  Want the feel and spirit of the street bike but the comfort and convenience of the scooter?  This is Honda’s answer!  A scooter’s comfort is partly due to the foot position being towards the front.  The Mid Concept adopts this idea, which also gives you better protection from bad weather for your feet.  But to maintain the look of the sport bike, and the stability and maneuverability  of the sport bike, Honda pairs the forward foot position with 17-inch wheels, the Honda Pro-Link rear suspension, and radial scooter tires. Honda has also vented the front fairings to improve stability at higher speeds.

The Honda Mid Concept has an automatic transmission to enhance your riding experience whether you’re a weekend warrior on the open road or cruising to the mall.  Go green!  The Mid Concept boasts a fuel efficiency which exceeds conventional manual transmissions.

Scooter tires are an expensive investment, and they are an important decision.    The right tires provide safety and protection for the rider, they maximize fuel savings, and last but not least, they improve the look of your scooter.  If you are ready to get new scooter tires, I highly recommend doing your homework before you buy.  And the place to start is online.  You can check out tread patterns online, you can price shop online, and most of all, you can educate yourself about load indexes, speed ratings and which tires to use for streets versus off-road riding.  A helpful chart can be accessed by clicking on this link:  Basic Tire Information

Scooter tires vary by manufacturer as much as vehicle tires do.  You can choose different tread patterns and sizes from a variety of price ranges.  And it’s important to replace your scooter tires when the tread is worn too slick.  When buying new scooter tires, be sure to select a tire that is manufactured for either the front or rear application.  Some tires will work in either application, but not all.    And the “size and rating” of scooter tires, which might read like “3.50-10″ indicates the size of the scooter rim as measured in inches.  In this case, the rim measure 3.5″ by 10″ on the inside diameter of the tire.

And tire size can run from 8 inches all the way up to 23 inches.  Typically the rear tire will be a little bit wider than the front tire, but the tread patterns will match.  Choose the width and height you prefer, find a tread pattern you like, mount the tires on fancy wheels, and decorate your scooter from the ground up.
